Being totally obsessed with all things vocal jazz (and jazz-adjacent!) means I’ve been joyfully sharing this passion—both privately and at university level—for over 15 years. I’m currently the Jazz Voice tutor on the BMUS course at Royal Holloway, University of London, and I spent 10 wonderful years teaching on the legendary Jazz degree course at Middlesex University (one of the first of its kind in the UK) before it sadly wrapped up last year.
Jazz has always felt like home in a way no other genre does. For me, it’s not about the destination—it’s about the search. As jazz musicians, we’re always reaching for that place where truth, music, and beauty meet. That fleeting, magical moment when everything just clicks. Some call it flow. Some call it the all and nothing. I call it Jazz Singing!
I offer private lessons both online and in person from my place in Hackney, East London. Sessions are usually an hour long and start with a quick warm-up focused on technique and vocal tone. From there, we dive into repertoire, phrasing, interpretation, improvisation, and overall vocal musicianship. Lessons are always tailored to the individual, depending on your interests and goals.
I’ve worked with students from all walks of life—some with a more traditional music background, some with none at all. Studying jazz is a deeply personal journey, and the most important thing you can bring to it is a genuine love for the music.
If that sounds like you, get in touch—and let’s unleash your vocal kraken!
